The Government of Asahan Regency has initiated a scholarship program for high-achieving students from economically disadvantaged families residing in Asahan. This program attracts many applicants, each required to meet specific criteria. However, the selection process currently relies solely on the highest GPA without applying appropriate weighting to each criterion, leading to a lack of consideration for other potential factors. Additionally, the assessment process still uses Microsoft Excel to input scores and determine the highest value, without a dedicated database for storing applicant data. Given the large number of applicants, this method complicates data retrieval, filtering, and processing, making it time-consuming and inefficient. This research successfully designed and developed a web-based decision support system using the Weighted Product Method (WPM) to select scholarship recipients based on weighted criteria according to their level of importance. The system is also intended to assist the regional public welfare department of Asahan, which oversees the program, in making the selection process more effective and efficient.
