Abstract
Currently, many people keep cats as pets, but they often lack the necessary experience and knowledge. As a result, the cats may become ill or even die. One of the most common issues is irregular and untimely feeding, which can lead to weight loss, behavioral problems, or even death. Several factors contribute to this, such as the owner's busy schedule causing them to forget to feed the cat, or simply a lack of diligence in feeding the pet consistently. Although automatic cat feeders are available on the market, they are often expensive, with prices around Rp. 1.9 million. Based on these issues, the researcher intends to design a cat feeding device with two systems: the first is a cat object detection system, and the second is a scheduled feeding system. The working principle of the device is as follows: when the cat wants to eat, it approaches the feeding station. A sensor detects the cat’s weight (1 kg for a small cat and above 1 kg for a large cat). Once the weight is detected, the device dispenses food according to the cat's needs. In the second system, the feeder automatically dispenses food if the cat doesn’t approach the feeding station—this helps cats who are not yet familiar with the new feeding spot. This system is active for three days, dispensing food three times a day: at 9:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 7:00 PM (feeding every five hours). If the cat approaches the feeder outside of these scheduled times and stands in front of it, the system will automatically dispense food. For small cats, the portion is approximately 8 grams, with a 15-second RTC delay using a 500-gram load cell. The total daily feed is 24 grams. For larger cats (detected via a load cell reading above 1 kg), the portion is 18 grams with a 30-second RTC delay, totaling 54 grams per day. The feeding system operates continuously for 24 hours. The sample cats used in this design are Angora and mixed-breed Angora cats, aged 6–12 months, and the type of food used is dry cat food (kibble).
